MEET THE STAFF
Cody Nichols - Station Manager
Cody was infatuated with local and national radio personalities at a very early in his childhood. At the young age of 12, Cody landed his first job as a local disc-jockey in his hometown of Floydada, Texas and has been working in radio and the broadcast industry nearly 30 years now. His resume is extensive and includes a 5-year stint as co-host of the globally syndicated Christian Rock countdown show “Red Letter Rock20” from 2003-2008 and several broadcast awards including 11 awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.
Cody is a transplant to Kansas…coming to Chanute from Austin, Texas in August of 2005 to work as General Manager for KFEX FireEscape Radio. He is husband to Becky, father to Christian and Lennon, and wrangler to the family pet, Dexxter. He is also a sound engineer, music producer, and recording studio owner with a large comfy studio located on Main Street right here in Chanute.
Chelsy Wright - Host of "The Encore" Radio Show
Chelsy is a seasoned veteran at KFEX. And we don't mean the American hero type. She is been with us for about 10 years and absolutely loves being able to share her ministry on-air. She started back as a sophomore in high school where she co-hosted Saturday night “Untitled” with Jeremiah Wood and then they later went on to host the “Morning Perk” together. After taking about a six year sabbatical to go to college and experience life in the big city, she is back! When she is not on air you can find Chelsy spending time with the youth of Chanute as a local youth pastor or hanging out with her fur baby, Lambeau.
Shari Wendt - Host of "Single Spark" Radio Show
Shari Wendt is currently the Director of Children’s Ministry at the First United Methodist Church as well as heeding the call to do programming on KFEX. She is married and has three children and “I have also had the privilege of being part of a praise band at church with my family. I’m not terribly musical, but God gave me the ability to keep a beat; so I play the drums for our band. I love working with children and high school youth and leading Bible studies for women/couples. Studying God’s word is a delight to my heart.”
Shari has named her show “Single Spark”. “My hope is to use the show to ignite a passion for God in the hearts of the listeners. As I pondered the possibilities for names, I realized that if the conditions are right, all that is needed is a single spark to set a raging fire that consumes everything in touches! I was compelled to look up the meaning for my given name, and there it was: “Single Spark.” God had spoken it into being…Praise the Lord!” ”Single Spark” airs on Wednesdays at 7am and 3pm. Listen in and be blessed!
